Perilous Times are Now!

I think it is safe to say that we are truly living in unparalleled times! From facing a global pandemic, and police brutality to nation wide protests/riots and open racism. The world is becoming more wicked. Fortunately, this is not a surprise to God. He actually warned us that this would happen!

When we begin to give up hope, we must rest in the fact that God gives us directions on how we must handle the ways of this world! He is our HOPE, PEACE, and JOY in a world that is filled with so much evil and hate.

2 Timothy 3:1 says “This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.” – This is a popular scripture that most of us are familiar with, but what does “perilous” look like?

Perilous means to be full of danger and risk.

2 Timothy 3:2- 5 begins to describe the behaviors that we will see;

  •     Lovers of their own selves (selfish- 1 John 3:17)

  •    Covetous

  •     Boasters

  •     Proud (Romans 12:3)

  •    Blasphemers

  •     Disobedient to parents

  •     Unthankful

  •     Unholy

  •     Without natural affection

  •     Trucebreakers

  •     False accusers

  •     Incontinent (lacking self-restraint)

  •     Fierce

  •     Despisers of those that are good

  •     Traitors

  •     Heady

  •     High-minded

  •     Lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God (Titus 3:3)

  •     Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof

Whew!! That’s a lot! But these are some of the signs to let us know that we are in the last days.

As we continue to read in verse 5, the word tells us to turn away from such things (listed). We have to separate ourselves unless we be led captive by sin and divers lusts. We CANNOT play games with the devil! He doesn’t play fair and we will lose every time!

What do we do?

2 Timothy 3:14-17

14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; 15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

The Bible, paraphrased, tells us to persevere and hold fast to the true Word of God and the teachings of Jesus Christ!

Hebrews 12:1-2 says it best!
