Traveling with Toddlers
Since the holidays are here and families will be traveling, I thought it would be fitting to share my experiences traveling/flying with toddlers. In addition to prayer, patience, and flexibility, here are some tips to consider on your next trip!
1. Children under 2 fly FREE!! I know this is basic knowledge, but sometimes, you don’t know what you don’t know! People have told me not to take my babies on trips because they won’t remember but, I will! And I am here for the experiences! FYI- For my latest trip, both of my kids needed their own seat, besides the price increase, this also had its own perks!
2. All the baby supplies travel FREE- Stroller, diaper bag, car seat… you name it! There is no extra cost to get these supplies on the flight! I’ve always decided to leave the car seat behind, but if you need it, airlines won’t charge you for it! It’s like having extra luggage space. Also, you can keep your stroller until you get on the plane. I like that!
3. Bring entertainment- Take a book, small toy, or tablet so that your child can have something to do. Flying can be a lot of waiting and down time. Walking around the airport can also kill time and get their energy out.
4. Small children give you more leg room- Going back to my first tip, if you do have to purchase a ticket for your baby, the perk is having extra space!
5. Have the milk ready!- When babies are hungry they become cranky! TSA will usually allow you to bring the milk through (they may test it). Have bottles ready. I breastfed both children, so I stayed ready! LOL.
Keeping these tips in mind, all experiences are different. Thankfully, my kids have never felt sick or antsy on a flight (they usually fall asleep). Having medicine or headphones in case of earaches could be helpful. I don’t think you can ever be too prepared. You know your baby and making sure they are comfortable is what’s important.
Share some of your traveling tips in the comments so we can all be blessed!
Our prayer is that “The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul. The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.” Psalm 121:7-8
