Being Separated: Part 1
There was this quote that I came across on Instagram that basically said how our generation has created this false narrative that you can follow Christ and still be a part of the world.
So, this week we decided to study what God says in his Word about separation. Those quotes on IG be cute to repost but when it comes down to ACTUALLY living it out, it hits different.
We are going to break this study up, so this is Part 1- The Natural Separation
A natural separation begins when you accept Jesus Christ to be Lord over your life. Its normal to stop doing the more known or common sins such as fornication, cursing, stealing, drinking, etc. You start going to church and stop going to the club. But that is only the beginning and it’s so much deeper than that.
Ephesians 4:22-24 says, That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
The world does not see a problem with sin. We are born into sin. Once we become saved, our actions, thoughts, and mindset have to be different from the world, which in turn causes a natural separation.
1 Peter 1:14 -16 says, As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy: for I am holy.
We are called to a higher standard.
God has separated us from darkness, from the world. Remember, the world hated Jesus so the world should hate us too! (John 15:19)
James 4:4 paraphrased, states that if you are friends with the world then you are God’s enemy! Like WOAH! That is a difficult pill to swallow!
Personally, I am going through my own season of “separation” and it is easily one of the hardest and loneliest times in my life. (Ill probably share more about this in another blog post)
Going back to the meme that I saw… You CANNOT serve God and the world. God calls that double mindedness and luke warm. There will always be a separation between the righteous and unrighteousness. (Luke 16:26).
With love,
