True Worship
Sometimes when we hear worship, we equate this to praise and worship: singing songs and raising our hands/voices. Yes, this is worship but we also must recognize that how we live and how we respond to God is worship too.
John 4: 23-24 KJV
“But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.”
So what is true worship?
Worship - (noun) the feeling or expression of reverence and adoration for a deity. (verb) to show reverence and adoration for a deity.
Lets start out with 1 Chronicles 16:29 KJV
“Give unto the Lord the glory due unto his name: bring an offering, and come before him: worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.”
Our worship to Christ requires an offering. We are to offer ourselves as living sacrifices, holy and acceptable. (Romans 12:1)
This scripture also states to worship in “beauty of holiness”. Holiness is in reference to how you live; your actions, your deeds, your thoughts, the things you say, your behavior, and your attitude should all be holy (1 Peter 1:15-17). When you live holy, you shine light before men, and God gets the glory.
This is worship.
Deuteronomy 26:10
“And now, behold, I have brought the first fruits of the land, which thou, O Lord, hast given me. And thou shalt set it before the Lord thy God, and worship before the Lord thy God:”
We must give God priority over all that we receive because it is he that giveth. Tithes are an example of giving the Lord first fruits. (2 Chronicles 31:5)
Waking up in the morning, and seeking Christ first is an example of giving first fruits. (Matthew 6:33)
This is worship.
Psalms 95:6
“Oh come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the Lord our maker.”
This position, this posture expresses reverence and humility. God is God and we are not.
This is worship.
Revelation 22: 7-9
“Behold, I come quickly: blessed is he that keeps the sayings of the prophesy of this book..…and of them which keep the sayings of this book: worship God.”
Obedience to Gods word is worship. If you love God, you will obey (John 14:23). Love is the feeling of adoration that you show him. God clearly states that if you love him, you will keep his word.
God deserves all of our worship. Worship with our voices and our actions. He deserves more worship than we could ever give. Remember to praise him in all that you do, and to worship him in spirit and in truth.
With love
