Matching Energy

There have been so many social media trends that are promoting “matching energies”…

(Needless to say, I have been spending way too much time scrolling and not enough time in my word). My sister called me and asked me how I felt about it and we both agreed that, that way of thinking is wrong, according to the word of God. If you are a Christian, you DO NOT match energies!! What is that? A person is letting the devil use them, so yeah…I’m gone let the devil use me too??

Nah sis!

Could you imagine if God matched your energy towards him? (Take a moment to think about that…because I did, and I could cry).

The Bible tells us EXACTLY how we are supposed to treat people; not just people we like, but even more so, our enemies.

I was going through my bible, reading different scriptures and started to read Galatians 5. Paul is writing to the Galatian church about the difference between grace and following the law.

He states that all the law is fulfilled through this: Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself (Galatians 5:14)

He then tells them (us) to walk in the Spirit and not in the flesh. He gives descriptors of what walking in the flesh looks like…

Galatians 5:19-21

19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,

20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,

21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

Now as you can see… this is a lot to cover… but what sticks out to me when I think about “matching energy” is: hatred, variance, and strife.

Proverbs 10:12 says, “Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins.”

Strife is defined as anger or bitter disagreement over fundamental issues; conflict.

-The Bible references strife to having pride, a contentious spirit, and anger.

Variance is defined as conflicting, contrasting, disagreement, discord, or controversy.

All of these are contrary to the spirit of Christ and those who walk in them will not inherit the Kingdom of God. (refer to the ending of Galatians 5:21)

The flip side of this is that we should be showcasing the fruits of the spirit: love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance.

This is NOT contingent upon how we are being treated. The bible tells us that we will be hated among men, because of Christ.

Matthew 10:22 states “And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.”

We should not treat people how they treat us but instead treat people how God treats us, displaying the fruits of the spirit. We have a responsibility to love as Christ has loved us.

Luke 6:35 says, But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.

Paul concludes this chapter telling the church:

Galatians 5:26 says, “Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.”

It is so easy to get caught up in trends on social media and what sounds good. Remember that the world operates differently than you and your behavior won’t be trendy. You are chosen and peculiar (1 Peter 2:9)

So, in closing,

Let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. Galatians 6:9

With love,
